Backup and Restore

While SMS/MMS is supposed to be throw away messages, frequently you get information or pictures you just don’t want to lose. SMS is one of the few things that actually lives on your phone with no backup or replica of the data to any place safe, so a lost phone, a drop in water, OS failure, or upgrading to the latest ROM could quickly erase many messages you might have hoped to save.

The Android Market has a variety of apps to Backup SMS & MMS messages like Backup to GMail and SMS Backup and Restore.

Backup to GMail

Backup to Gmail can help you to backup SMS, MMS and Call logs to Gmail labels automatically. You can even restore it to your phone, if you would like. If you set it to auto backup, you can basically set and forget and still be covered.

SMS Backup and Restore

A simple App to Backup and Restore SMS Messages. Keep in mind MMS is not supported with SMS Backup and Restore. The only other challenge is backups are stored on your SD card there for you are not protected from a lost phone.

  • Automatic Scheduled Backups.

  • View Backup Contents on the phone.

  • Option to backup selected conversations only.

  • Backups are created in XML Format on the SD Card. The XML can then be converted to other formats and can also be viewed on a computer.

  • Send Backup file by Email.
